What is checked?
- The name of the organization that hosts the address (the ASN holder)
- Class: data center / hosting provider, internet service provider or mobile operator
- ASN, IP block and reverse DNS name
- Registration data: RIR, netname and year; organization and range in the WHOIS / RDAP card
How do I read the result?
- Data center / hosting provider: the address is on a hosting company's network. The classification relies on an ASN list and is heuristic.
- If the site is behind a CDN such as Cloudflare, the CDN's name appears rather than the real host; the server behind it cannot be told from the IP address.
- One IP address can host several sites; the address belongs to a server, not to a site.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out which host a site is on?
Enter the domain name. The organization that owns the IP address in the A record is shown as the host. The top band of the DNS report lists the web, email and DNS providers separately.
Why does it show Cloudflare?
If the site is behind a CDN or protection service such as Cloudflare, the IP address visible from outside is theirs. The real hosting company cannot be learned this way.
Can email hosting differ from web hosting?
Yes. The website, email (MX) and DNS (NS) can sit with different providers. The DNS report shows the three separately.
